As I am surfing the web for anything Interstitial Cystitis (IC) related, I keep coming across a particular homeopathic medicine.
The medicine is called Cantharis. And I found a few others.
I think because IC is so complex a combination of homeopathic medicine is needed. And of course, none of these work in a day or two. The key is to take them for an extended period of time….maybe even for life on lower maintenance doses.
Just a reminder, I am not a medical professional. The information on this site is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
One of the most common homeopathic medicine I found was Cantharis (more specifically Cantharis 30). Cantharis is used for intolerable urgency with burning, scalding urination. Another herbal medicine is Marshmallow Root, which is soothing to the bladder. Mahonia which is a source of Berberine also has benefits.
Berberis aquifolium – Oregon Grape or Mahonia is for dysuria, burning sensations, and urinary calculi. Urinary Calculi, also called vesical calculus, or cystoliths, are caused by a buildup of minerals. They can occur if the bladder is not completely emptied after urination. Eventually, the leftover urine becomes concentrated and minerals within the liquid turn into crystals. Berberis aquifolium is specific for stitching cramping pains, urine with thick mucus, and bright red, mealy sediment, especially when accompanies by chronic infections, skin eruptions, and liver congestion.
Marshmallow Root is the star of the IC relief protocol! It is inexpensive. You must obtain true marshmallow root, dry, from an herbal store either in your area or online. Marshmallow root is demulcent, which means that it’s high in anti-inflammatory mucilage.

And lastly, there is D-Mannose. Upon signs of a flare or infection, begin with 1 full teaspoon in 8 ounces of water EVERY HOUR! D-Mannose helps a great deal to a lot of people with IC and is one of the most important elements in the IC arsenal. Have it on hand at all times. Take every hour until flare is completely gone. Then, take at least one or two teaspoons a day in water for many months, maybe for a year or more during healing.
Hope this helps. I am going to give this a try.
Thank you for the information.
