Is it a Bladder Infection or Interstitial Cystitis?

It is very common for Interstitial Cystitis (IC) to be misdiagnosed (and even treated) as urinary tract infection (UTI). So it is important to seek help from a urologist if:

  • You continue to have symptoms without signs of infection in your urine.
  • Your symptoms persist for 6 weeks or more.
  • You are having pain in addition to urinary symptoms.
  • Your symptoms are frequently treated with antibiotics without definite signs of infection in your urine.

Interstitial Cystitis can look a lot like a urinary tract infection, but it doesn’t go away, and doesn’t come up in urinalysis. If urinalysis continues to come back clean, ask to be evaluated for Interstitial Cystitis.
