Most Interstitial Cystitis (IC) patients do not discuss an emergency plan with their physicians should a flare up occur on a weekend or while they are traveling where they do not have access to their physician. Remember, discuss an emergency plan with your physician so you know how to handle an Interstitial Cystitis (or Bladder Pain Syndrome) flare up during evening hours, weekends or when traveling. This plan may include bladder analgesic and antispasmodic medications, self-bladder instillations, antibiotics if an infection is suspected and more.

Trust me, you don’t want to have a painful flare up one evening or weekend or when you are traveling without a well thought out plan to get you through that challenging situation. Good luck and stay strong!
Note: Having an emergency plan in place might save you from going to a hospital emergency room in the middle of the night.
