Today I want to talk to you about another treatment option for Interstitial Cystitis (IC). Some urologists👨⚕️ use Botox to treat IC, injecting it directly into the bladder wall and floor. The idea is to target clusters of nerve endings to interrupt pain and squeezing. Each patient usually gets 100 units.
A nationwide clinical trial of Botox showed that it provides about six months of relief.
A lot of people believe their Botox didn’t work because their symptoms come back, but it doesn’t last forever.

Botox has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA – a Regulatory Agency in the United States) for Interstitial Cystitis, but some doctors may recommend it when other treatments have not worked. Botox may help block nerves in the bladder that transmit sensations such as pain. A healthcare 🏥 professional injects Botox directly into the bladder. Researchers are studying whether botulinum toxin A will relieve bladder and pelvic pain in patients with Interstitial Cystitis.
I tried Botox injections in the bladder, but unfortunately, it did not work for me. Check out my post describing my personal experience with bladder Botox injections. Click on the link below.
