Every day, you get direct feedback from your bladder. Some messages are easier to explain. If you drink a lot of water, it’s likely that you’ll need to urinate soon or more frequently. Some medications, like diuretics or decongestants, can increase your need to urinate.
Some messages, however, are a sign of more serious issues like urinary tract infections, Interstitial Cystitis (Bladder Pain Syndrome), bladder stones, trauma, ureteral obstruction, an enlarged prostate or even bladder cancer.
Some signs of a bladder problem may include:
- Inability to hold urine or leaking urine.
- Needing to urinate more frequently or urgently.
- Cloudy urine.
- Blood in the urine.
- Pain or burning before, during, or after urinating.
- Trouble starting or having a weak stream while urinating.
- Trouble emptying the bladder.
