PEA Supplement: A Game-Changer for Interstitial Cystitis Pain

I found this testimony below on Reddit. I wanted to share this person’s experience with the PEA supplement. If this can help one person then it is worth sharing!

A PEA supplement most commonly refers to Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), a fatty acid amide naturally produced by the body that is sold as a dietary supplement. It is primarily used for managing chronic pain and inflammation, with studies showing it can significantly reduce pain scores and improve quality of life, especially for nerve-related pain conditions like diabetic neuropathy, sciatica, and fibromyalgia. PEA is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, though long-term effects beyond three months are not well-studied and nausea is a possible side effect.

Testimony below. 👇

“AFAB person with a 15 yr history of ineffectual IC treatments with a few unexplained periods of remission. My most stubborn IC symptom is urethral pain.

After reading about PEA supplements for urinary pain (specific brand on the IC Network website is PEAORA), I gave it a shot. I had very low expectations as no other supplement aside from Prelief has ever helped me. I’ve also taken all of the first line IC meds: amitriptylene, hydroxyzine, Gabapentin, cimetidine, etc. And I’ve tried bladder instillations.

It’s been about 3 months taking this PEA formulation and my pain level is now negligible. I still have annoying nocturia and frequency but it’s so much more manageable without the pain.

Obviously, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to IC treatment, and I don’t want to imply that PEA is some kind of magical cure-all. But it has improved my quality of life beyond anything I’ve ever tried before – prescribed or OTC.”

How much PEA were you taking and in what type of doses? I originally took x2 capsules of the supplement per day but have since increased to x4 a day. A note that I tried some other PEA brands and they didn’t work for me AT ALL. There’s something about the specific formulation above that works for my IC.
