Many people with Interstitial Cystitis take Marshmallow Root.
Marshmallow Root is a key supplement in an effective IC relief protocol! The cost is affordable; however, you need to know a few things. You must obtain dry Marshmallow Root (in bulk). Mountain Rose Herbs is an online option. According to many people, capsules or supplements with marshmallow, they will be a waste of your time and money. You need the true bulk plain herb.
Marshmallow Root has an affinity for the bladder. It is mucilaginous meaning it produces a slimy beneficial and protective coating for your tissues, especially the bladder. It has been used to heal IC. It also does not give a herxheimer reaction that many herbs can give because most of them have some sort of antimicrobial properties. This herb is also used by people diagnosed with Lyme Disease with no problems with die off. Drinking a lot of water is very important.
Marshmallow Root cold water infusion is the preferable method used to prepare this supplement. You can also make a tea if you are in a hurry. The cold water infusion is superior for Marshmallow Root because it pulls the mucilage more than the starch with cold water. The tea pulls more starch, which is not necessarily bad, but the less starch/sugars the better when dealing with Interstitial Cystitis, Lyme Disease and yeast overgrowth.
Marshmallow Root Cold Water Infusion Recipe:
- 32 0z glass mason jar
- 1 cup of marshmallow root
- Fill jar to rim with room temperature purified water
- Leave steeping for 4-10 hours
- Strain
- Refrigerate in glass jar
- Drink as needed
Begin drinking 1- 4 glasses of marshmallow infusion daily for 2 weeks or until you are pain free. Once you have established it’s presence in your system you can go down to about 1 glass a day, for a time. Then use as needed when you feel a flare coming on, or one cup daily for 6 months for long term healing of the bladder lining.
For some, this herb works nearly instantly, relieves the pain in the bladder lining; however, some people need to use this supplement for a few weeks before noticing the benefits.
Below are 2 testimonies about Marshmallow Root and it’s effectiveness in treating Interstitial Cystitis.
Well this is super interesting! I’ve never heard of marshmallow root! I’m glad to see that this seems to be helping people with the IC condition too! That’s amazing!

Also you can take with MR chondroitin sulfate and bee propolis, all three together, a really interesting trio.

I have been using marshmallow root per your blog and others and I have noticed immediate relief when drinking four cups a day! It can be a bit messy however as 32oz mason jar seems to be small for 1 cup of the root. It ends up floating to the top and it all spills out when trying to pour it. I will buy some more mason jars to compensate for this. The dried freeze Aloe Vera also has helped, but the marshmallow root infusion has definitely removed the pain when I drink it. I bought the capsules recently and will try them even though you mention they do not work as well.

Hi,
Don’t even bother with the capsules–I took them every day for a while with no effect.
Just started taking the marshmallow root cold infusion and I am actually having a little relief–
first thing that is relieving pain. Hoping if I’m on it for a while I can get rid of
this miserable torturous condition!

The marshmallow root needs to be strained through a wire mesh strainer.
The capsules did nothing for me, the tea did not offer enough relief either–
You need to do this cold infusion method! You will improve with it.
Try a heaping teaspoon of marshmallow root in a 12 oz glass of water, cover and let sit for several hours,
longer seems to be better-you can do overnight too!

I have been using Marshmallow root for IC relief for a couple of weeks now I am feeling so much better,I tried a lot of other supliments and spent a lot of money. Then by chance saw an article on IC that mentioned Marshmallow root.I cried with the relief of being pain and urge free,Lockdown has meant we are all leading a pretty sedentary lives, making life worse for the IC sufferers .If you haven’t tried it you should, this stuff has been in use for 2000 years,we as humans have forgotten or passed over the traditional ancient medicines in favour of pill popping convenience, this is not quackery it really works and with every cup you drink not only is it improving your health but it is putting you in touch with the knowledge of our forebears and is quite a humbleing experience.

I was diagnosed in 2013 with IC and per Doctor recommendation started on the med they suggested. When my medical insurance stopped paying for it they referred me to a compounding pharmacy and stated to pay cash for the “generic” version. I have been able to keep my IC episodes to a minimum these past 8 years. I have since lost my job and cant afford to buy the compounded version let alone go to a $250 visit for follow-ups. I am sure going to try this in hope I can keep it under control until I can get insurance again. Thanks for sharing. cross your fingers. I will keep you updated.

I have found Marshmallow Root Capsules to be very effective in relieving my IC symptoms. I take a 480 mg Nature’s Way capsule twice a day. It relieves the burning very quickly. I’m wondering if it’s safe to continue this regimen on a long-term basis.

Hello Iv read on a couple sites that you should drink the infusion 3 hours before or after any type of medications or supplement because they might not absorb. Also Iv read that you should stop taking this 2 weeks before any surgery. You is your opinion on this?

Hi, I was just diagnosed with IC but have been dealing with the horrible pain and constant visits to the bathroom with minimal sleep for about 1 1/2 years. My heart goes out to everyone with this disease. So I was wondering if the marshmallow root supplements don’t work as well as the actual root, how does the marshmallow powder compare to the dried root? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I tried both and I think the actual root tea works best but try both so you might find which one helps you the most. Yes, it is a challenging disease. I hope you find a great doctor that is dedicated to helping you.

Hi, I ordered some marshmallow root from Mountain Rose Herbs, like you suggested. They have a video on their website about making the cold water infused marshmallow root drink that says 1-2 tablespoons per 12 oz. of water. I am curious where you came up with a cup of root per 32 ounces of water? Just asking. Was this by trial and error on your own part, or did you read this recipe somewhere? A cup of the dried root per 32 ounces seems like a lot. Thanks for your input!

I’m so glad to see others talking up the capsules. You know many people find it easier to swallow them than to try and drink the tea and have it stay down, me being one.

Can I ask where you got one cup of marshmallow root per 32 ounces of water? That seems like a lot. The Mountain Rose company that I ordered the root from (per your suggestion) recommends 1-2 tablespoons per 12 ounces of water. Did you come up with that on your own by trial and error, or did you read it somewhere? Thank you!
