Does Interstitial Cystitis affect life expectancy?

Interstitial Cystitis (also known as Bladder Pain Syndrome) is a chronic disease (that affects the bladder).  Patients may find some comfort in the fact that Interstitial Cystitis is not life-threatening, and it does not lead to cancer. However, the chronic pain and discomfort associated with the condition can significantly impair the quality of life.

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) causes bladder pressure, bladder pain, and sometimes pelvic pain. There is no cure for IC. Interstitial Cystitis causes an inflamed or irritated bladder wall. It can lead to scarring and stiffening of the bladder.

Experts do not know what causes Interstitial Cystitis. Researchers are looking at many theories to understand the causes of IC and find the best treatments.

  1. i had seen a consultant regards IC + his words to me were at least it’s not cancer/life threatening. Maybe so but they obviously hadn’t experienced the pain both physical + mental this condition brings which I would say has affected my life (+ am sure others) in so many ways.
